Excelsior!

Welcome, everyone, to the very first post for The Marvel Collector, a brand new site dedicated to the latest entry in Topps' every growing portfolio of digital trading card apps - Topps Marvel Collect!

I've been eager to get my teeth into another project and figured it would be a great opportunity to track this app through from its infancy, watching it grow and evolve into into the time (and cash) consuming juggernaut that it has the potential to turn into.

To say this app has been long-awaited by Marvel fans has been a bit of an understatement. I know that we had Marvel content over on Quidd, but as a user of the Topps Star Wars: Card Trader app for the last few years it was always blindingly obvious that a framework was very much in place to develop something truly awesome for Marvel collectors.

Topps is no stranger to the digital card market, spending the last several years honing its trade with the aforementioned Star Wars app, alongside other Topps staples such as Bunt, Skate, Slam, Kick, The Walking Dead, to name just a few.

I wasn't aware of the Beta version of Topps Marvel Collect! until a couple of weeks after its release, but once I had it installed on my Pixel 3 I took the opportunity to stock up on coins from a wide variety of Tapjoy offers... and I was off!!

From what I've seen in the early weeks I've been really impressed. Topps seems to have found a great balance to keep their Pay to Play (P2P) and Free to Play (F2P) users happy, with MOST sets so far available to all collectors. I've even found myself pumping a bit of money into the app, just to keep my collection ticking along. So far, so good!

Naturally there will be the usual detractors, those individuals who refuse point blank to pay for anything and who can't seem to process the notion that Topps is a business like any other. Just how well Topps keeps an eye on their bottom line, while at the same time keeping the fans engaged and happy, will go a long way to determining the long term success of the Marvel Collect! app.

I'm pretty excited to see that's on offer over the coming weeks and months. There's a HUGE universe of content available to Topps, and it will be fascinating to see how creative Topps gets with their set releases.
